Oracy
Here at The Vale we provide children with opportunities to learn how to articulate themselves clearly and coherently to a range of audiences and develop the key skills needed to be a good listener.
The school uses The Oracy Framework from Voice 21 to ensure all areas of oracy are taught across the curriculum.
To support the development of oracy across all subjects teachers use sentence stems to scaffold pupils’ talk and there is an expectation that the children respond to question by answering in full sentences.
The development of vocabulary acquisition is supported by having a word of the week that the children learn about and use in school and is also found on the newsletter for parents. We use knowledge organisers that list key subject specific vocabulary in science, geography, history, art and design and technology for use in school and at home.
