GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

Five of our pupils represented the school today in the GLF Boundless Chess Tournament. Every child won a match! It was a fantastic competition with super support and respect from every competitor. We came 8th out of 10 schools with only a few points between everyone! A huge thank you to our parents for taking the children and picking them up. What a great day! We are so proud of Year 1 and their fantastic creativity in their wider curriculum learning this week! The children have been exploring the work of Orla Kiely and William Morris, taking inspiration from their distinctive patterns and natural motifs. Using acrylic pens on fabric, they have been carefully designing and decorating panels for their own class curtains — developing their fine motor skills, pattern-making and design techniques along the way. We had a fantastic Harvest Celebration this week. We gave thanks and used a conker as a symbol to remind us of all we can be grateful for. We also thought about others less fortunate than ourselves and acts of kindness. The children were so excited to meet Mrs Matthew's guinea pig family-Mum and five babies that she brought into school for the day. Animals, like guinea pigs, can aid children's mental wellbeing, supporting engagement in learning, providing comfort, reducing stress and anxiety, enhancing social skills, and helping children learn about responsibility and empathy through their care. Our Nursery is a key part of the school. We provide a safe and secure setting in which children have access to a vibrant and stimulating indoor and outdoor area. We encourage children to develop their skills and independence through play-based learning. The children feel valued, understood, and encouraged to develop socially, emotionally, and academically. The staff build trust through open communication, adapt their teaching to each child's needs, and collaborate with parents to support the child's overall development and well-being. As part of Robin's class wider curriculum learning they have been looking at signs of Autumn, e.g. leaves falling and their colour changing, the temperature dropping and the need to wear different clothing. Today they went on an Autumn walk to the local woods and Epsom downs. They were fortunate enough that it was beautiful weather and the Autumn colours really shone through. Robin class have invited any parents, older siblings, grandparents, relatives, or other special people to surprise their child/children by being a ‘Mystery Reader’ in their classroom. Children LOVE having their family, friends and relatives visit to share in our learning by reading a favourite story aloud to our class. Reading is highly valued in our school and classroom and inviting parents into our community of readers strengthens the home-school connection that is so important in helping the children grow as readers. What a fantastic first full week all the Robin class have had! They have all settled so quickly and are engaging in all that school offers and have become so independent in Discovery time. In the context of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Discovery Time refers to a period of child-initiated learning and exploration within an enabling environment, where children apply new skills and knowledge through hands-on play and investigation.
