Absence Reporting
We take attendance at school very seriously and ask for your assistance in minimising disruption to your child’s schooling. We strongly discourage absence from school and ask for your co-operation in seeking medical appointments outside of school hours.
If it becomes necessary to take your child out of school in exceptional circumstances a request form should be obtained from the office and returned to the Co-headteachers for consideration. Absence will only be authorised if your child’s attendance is 97% or above. Leave will not be granted to Year 2 and 6 pupils during the National Testing periods. If a child is absent from school due to ill health you must telephone on each day of absence. We are required to report persistent absence and lateness to the Educational Welfare Officer. Any pupil who is absent without an explanation for 10 consecutive days will be notified to the Local Authority, by submitting a referral to Education Welfare. This is a legal requirement. In line with national policy each parent will be liable for a penalty notice if the child has 5 consecutive unauthorised absences.
